Three simple steps

How to reduce video size

No upload queue, account, or software installation is required.

  1. 01

    Select a video

Choose a file from your device. MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio is the tested path.

  2. 02

    Set the result

Pick a target size for a file limit, or choose a quality preset for a predictable resolution cap.

  3. 03

    Download the MP4

Wait while your browser processes the file, then save the validated MP4 output.

Two ways to reduce

Choose a target size or quality

Target size is useful when an email, form, or chat has a file limit. The reducer makes up to two attempts to stay within your chosen limit.

Quality is useful when you want a simpler tradeoff. Smaller caps video at 480p, Balanced at 720p, and Better quality at 1080p.

Built around your privacy

Your video never leaves your browser

The selected file is passed directly to browser media APIs. This page does not upload it to an application server. Closing or reloading the page ends the local session.

The downloaded result is created as a temporary browser URL and released when you start over or leave the page.

Before you start

Supported formats and limits

Tested input

MP4 containing H.264 video and optional AAC audio. Other browser-decodable formats may work, but are not yet part of the tested MVP path.

Output

The reducer creates an MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio when the source contains compatible audio.

Browser and memory

A recent desktop browser with WebCodecs is required. Large files depend on available device memory and may fail before processing completes.

Common questions

Video size reducer FAQ

Does this tool upload my video?

No. The selected file is processed by browser APIs on your device. The app does not send it to an application server.

Can it guarantee an exact output size?

No encoder can promise an exact byte count in advance. Target-size mode uses a conservative bitrate budget and validates the result, with one smaller retry when needed.

Why does my browser say it is unsupported?

The MVP needs WebCodecs video and audio features. Try the latest desktop Chrome or Edge. Wider browser and mobile testing is scheduled next.

What happens if my file is already below the target?

The tool leaves it unchanged. You can keep the original, set a smaller target, or choose a quality preset.
