Your video stays on your device. Your visit is measured.

This policy separates two things that are often confused. The video you select is never uploaded. The fact that you visited this website is recorded, like on most websites. Both statements are true at the same time, and the sections below say exactly what each one means.

Your video files

When you choose a video, it is read by browser media APIs and re-encoded on your own device. The file is not transmitted to an application server operated by this site, and no copy of it is stored by us. The compressed result is made available through a temporary in-browser URL that is released when you reload, start over, or leave the page.

We therefore never receive, see, or retain your video, its filename, or its contents.

Usage data we do collect

This site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how many people use the tool and which pages they arrive on. It runs with Google's standard configuration, which means the following data is processed by Google on our behalf:

• Pages viewed, time on page, and how you arrived (search engine, direct, or referring link)
• Approximate location derived from your IP address, typically at city level
• Device, browser, operating system, screen size, and language
• A randomly generated identifier stored in cookies (_ga and _ga_*), used to recognise repeat visits. With Google's default settings these cookies last up to two years.

Google may also use this measurement data for cross-device recognition and advertising-related signals where your Google account settings permit it. We do not upload any personal identifiers to Google, and we do not run advertising on this site.

Hosting

The site is served by Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare processes standard request information — including your IP address — to deliver the site and to protect it from abuse. This happens for every website request and is separate from the analytics described above.

How to opt out

You can block analytics without losing any functionality of the compressor:

• Install Google's Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on
• Block or delete cookies for this site in your browser settings
• Use any content blocker that filters googletagmanager.com

The video compression itself does not depend on analytics and works fully with these blocked.

Your rights

If you are in the EEA or UK, GDPR gives you the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data relating to you, and to object to its processing. Because we do not operate accounts and hold no video files, the only data involved is the analytics data described above. Requests can be sent through the contact page.

Changes

If the data practices on this site change — for example if advertising is introduced — this page will be updated and the date at the top will change.
